Just received a text message from Shakila Kader, Secretary of Hunter Simba FC, that the application to the AGL Community Grants we helped them write and submit has been successful. The players will receive education and assistance for a "Nutrition for Sports Fitness" program over the playing season. As many of the players have low incomes and have had socially disrupted backgrounds as refugees they have missed out on family-based learning and the chances to discover good food choices. Now they are living in a place of plenty with a vast range and amount of foods to choose. Hunter Simba FC is ambitious, they aim to give the players good football coaching AND whole-of-life learning and support as they find their feet in a new community. This grant will make a big difference. As a Rotary club we gave some time and expertise. Sharing our Smarts was more important than simply handing over a cheque.
