Misting Systems

Yawn!! Misting  systems???  So what's all the excitement about them? LIBERATION!!!! Now the Kooragang Volunteers can  propagate the plants needed in the plantings in the estuary and surrounds and do it on their own terms. Last of the Orica Community Investment grant spent. Thank You to Hunter Irrigation who did the job of installing that mysterious box of bits and black pipe. The controller had to be programmed - 10 seconds per 15 minutes in Summer, 8 seconds per 24 minutes in Winter - in Misty Manor. Twice a day is OK for the Greenhouse and once a day for the hardening-off area. Ian is still tarting up the propagation shed. The electrician finishes on Tuesday, the rest of the wall lining goes in and the bare panels will get a paint job. Still some design ideas for the roof of the potting-mix bay to consider but from now on it is all Get Growing.

Bea Brooks with a fellow recipient from the Newcastle Rowing Club who are erecting 8 bollards on Throsby Creek. They are shaped like people and painted with real person faces. Creative and innovative.

Marvellous breakfast with fellow Orica Community Investment Grant 2013 recipients. Mayfield East School is adding to their kitchen garden, including a greenhouse. They will have a look at the one on Ash Island when it is erected. Talked to them about support needed that RCNE could be involved with - TBA when they choose between a gazillion things. Sculpture on the Foreshore, swimming lessons for newly arrived African immigrants, mostly from inland Africa and therefore have no experience of ocean swimming or even how to swim, Fern Bay Public School art project, Stockton Surf Club getting new boards and other equipment for the Nippers, the Kooragang Volunteers propagating shed and green house;  all  great projects, dedicated volunteers, doing good stuff with the help of Orica  KI. Walking back to the car their were two of the Merewether Landcare volunteers weeding. Carprobotus thriving and blooming, scaevola in full flower with small purple fans.
