A graffiti removal job done; rewarded with gratitude, and items for future raffles. The grateful recipient was amzed that we could do what two commercial operators hadn't been able to achieve.
Who would have thought that postie bikes could be so interesting? Thanks Damien for organizing the visit of Joris, Martial and Chris from Kyburz, and a new bike to our meeting.
It was good of Wests to allow one of the bikes to be driven into the auditorium.
The talk was fascinating and being able to have a close up look over the machine led to a very entertaining evening.

One of our Rotary Club members collects flags. He has many many many flags - flags of many nations, flags for companies, flags from events -you name it it is could be there in his nearly 2000 flags. Rotarians bring their skills and abilities from all of their life experiences and hobbies and apply them to local and global projects to do good in the world. Here are just a very few flags decorating the stage when we had some visitors.
A movement started by Anthony Robbins in the USA for the three decades ago, thousands of volunteers, all around the world, get together at Christmas each year to prepare baskets of food. These are then delivered to families that cannot afford to put food on their table or give their child a small gift for Christmas.
Members of Newcastle Enterprise volunteered this week to help make the magic happen.

Our meeting last night was a vocational visit to the Mayfield Mosque in Victoria Street. We had already heard Forugh Dorani at one of our rgular dinner meetings as a guest speaker giving us a quick run-down on the principles and practices of Islam so this was a follow-up to see where the local islamic community meets. The mosque was the former Salvation Army citadel so it wasn't purpose built to traditional design but serves well enough. Many parallels between the three Abrahamic faiths - Christian, Islam and Jewish.
We loved the feel of the carpet under our bare feet - thick and soft and woven in Turkey. Many questions asked and answered and an hour was too short.

The evening was a fine counterpoint to the previous evening when Hugh McKay spoke in Christchurch Cathedral
Ultimately, as Hugh said at the end of his talk, the differences between us fade into insignificance when we realise we are trying each in our own ways to do good in the world and our alikeness is much much greater.
Afterwards we went to our favourite place - the Staggie - for dinner. Such a good night, good company, good discussion and we learned a heap of new things. Next open day for the mosque is in October so take the opportunity and GO!!
